B2’s year in focus.
As the new year begins, we take a look back at B2’s 2018 in a roundup of stories that demonstrate that when it comes to fundraising and local communities, our agile team packs plenty of punch! Driven by our values, with people and our communities at the heart of our business, there’s been lots to celebrate. This not only makes us a great team to be a part of, but also great people to work with.
2018 was marked by an appropriate fundraising target of £2018 for the year’s chosen charity, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The cause is close to the hearts of many B2 employees who have had family and friends benefit from the essential research and treatment provided by this leading institution.
Rachel’s seven-year-old son, Ryan, has spent time in the hospital with digestive problems, and Leon’s 3-year-old nephew, Finley, who lives in Abergele, has received treatment for leukaemia. They are just two of the B2 team who have championed fundraising through the year, from a spooktacular Toshiba sponsored phone drive over Hallowe’en, to bakes and themed dressing up days adding to festivities in the Deeside and St Asaph offices.
B2’s Jordan also organised a football tournament with another local company Leader Optic Ltd, also supporting the Alder Hey Charity. “They do fantastic work and have provided care for members of both businesses,” confirmed Jordan. “We wanted to give something back.”
A highlight of the Alder Hey campaign was the family walk around Llandudno’s Great Orme covering around 6 miles of the Marine Drive circuit ahead of the Wales Rally stage. With the summer sun still much in evidence, it inspired a fantastic family day on this iconic landmark with fundraising for great cause appropriately led by superhero Ryan.
A steady effort by the B2 team through the year smashed the Alder Hey fundraising target and provided many amazing memories and poignant moments for the B2 team, their friends and families. You can still donate to our justgiving page here.
The oven gloves were out again for another successful MacMillan coffee morning with some creative efforts from the kitchen in evidence including some Wales Rally inspired tasty treats. B2 also reaffirmed their support of local armed forces charities in 2018 by donating a pre-loved Xerox multi-function device to the Colwyn Bay Air Cadets who were much in need of technology to support their efforts. B2 remain on the look out for other similar charities to support in North Wales in this way and ensure older devices are put to good use rather than discarded.
As the winter festivities approached, the team were inspired to deliver some Christmas Cheer to some local causes representing people in need. The Deeside office gathered much needed clothes, toys and toiletries, for Welsh Women’s Aid. Whilst the St Asaph office delivered food donations from employees, friends and family to the Flintshire Food Bank who were in dire need of donations during the festive season.
Strategic partnerships in the community
2018 also saw the continuation of some key local partnerships supporting a vibrant local community in the form of the Glad Fest and Wales Rally events.
2018 was the fourth year that B2 have been a technical partner for the legendary Wales Rally GB, part of the World Rally Championship. With the stages being held across Wales, history was made this year as the rally took to the streets of Llandudno for the first time bringing the exciting event to more people in the area. Meanwhile, the B2 team were quietly on hand behind the scenes with support copy and print devices and support to ensure the rally, marshalls’ and media offices were running smoothly.
B2’s MD, Peter Ryan explains, “The B2 team has built a great working relationship with the rally organisation over the 4 years of our support. We were delighted to be involved again this year and proud that our technical services form a part of the essential back office support behind such a major event for the region.”
B2 were there for the finale with some fellow petrol head fans with B2’s own Great Orme challenge video being played out on the big screens in the centre of Llandudno, Tir Prince and rally village at Deeside. It’s a You Tube celebration of B2 involvement in this big event for North Wales made in partnership with local organisations, and demonstrates that when it comes to ultimate challenges, the B2 team are up for anything! Watch it here.
B2 also maintained support for the literary festival Glad Fest organised by Gladstone’s Library in September every year. As well as appealing to the more bookish amongst us, there are lots of events to encourage young people to get creative and something inspirational for everyone in the community. As recipients of B2’s IT and document management services, it’s also great to give something back to a valued customer to help secure their ongoing success.
We also leveraged some B2 muscle to support Give and Gain efforts by customer, Kingspan based in Holywell. Once again, we joined their crew of willing volunteers and sponsors at Bryn Pennant Primary School to transform learning and play spaces for the children.
The story continues….
