Walking on in Bill’s memory

After the devastating loss of our colleague William (Bill) Turner to cancer in October, B2 has decided to support St David’s Hospice, where Bill spent his last few weeks, in his memory.

St David’s Hospice is a local charity providing care to adult patients across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. They deliver free, high-quality, specialist palliative care to patients living with advanced illnesses, their families and carers. Less than 14% of St David’s funding comes from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board so they rely heavily on donations and fundraising. The service they provide is invaluable to patients and their families, so B2 plan to help raise funds through any means possible.

B2 colleagues met with St David’s Hospice team recently to find out more about the fantastic work they do and how our fundraising efforts will affect them. It was clear for Neil and Kelly from their visits to see Bill and the tour provided by the team that St David’s want to give the very best care for anyone living with an advanced illness. They were impressed by the choice  St David’s provides of how people wish to be cared for, and grateful for the team of experts who were on hand for Bill’s illnesses and end of life care. Their care is entirely holistic and is tailored to the needs of each patient. Last year their services touched the lives of over 1,000 patients in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. Their patients and their families are at the heart of everything they do, something that the entire B2 team value, and all their services are free of charge.

Conwy Area Fundraiser, James Wilde said “Thank you to B2 Business Systems for selecting us as their charity of the year. It was great to have the group from the business come in and show them first-hand how their fundraising efforts will make a real difference to both the patients and their families that we care for here at St David’s Hospice. I look forward to seeing what great ideas the team come up with and having them involved in our events calendar in 2020.”

Kelly Livesey, Bill’s friend and former manager at B2, said “This charity is very close to our hearts and is special to all of us at B2. St David’s Hospice gave Bill and his family support and helped him live his final days in a comfortable happy surrounding, giving him the care he needed. We hope to raise money for this charity, so they continue to provide help and support to families in the same sad circumstances.”

Neil Roberts, B2 Helpdesk team and close friend of Bill’s, said “St. David’s hospice is very close to all our hearts here at B2. When our great friend and colleague Bill was diagnosed with Cancer, they took such good care of him and I know they made his final days as comfortable and peaceful as possible. Bill wasn’t just a patient to them, he also became a good friend. St. David’s Hospice also continue to offer support and guidance to Bill’s family throughout this very difficult time. The work they do is so valuable to so many families at their time of need and we are all looking forward to helping them as much as we can.”

The hospice has lots of great events that they run throughout the year which B2 are more than eager to get involved in, including the Dragon Boat Race in September. Plus, we have a team of employees, the ‘Think Tank’, who meet once a month to discuss and plan fundraising activities, so we won’t be short of ideas! There are already plans to strap on our walking boots for a Slate Trail team relay, particularly given Bill’s own love of walking the North Wales countryside.
